Thursday 4th March, 2021. 7.30pm Sydney / 10.30am Palestine
Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Centre, the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network and PIEN would like to invite you to the Australian launch of the film “The People’s Patriarch”, Reflections with Patriarch Michel Sabbah.

The documentary screening will be followed by an open discussion with His Eminence Patriarch (Emeritus) Michel Sabbah and the film’s, director Mohammed Alatar and producer Lily Habash. Moderated by Ursula Stephens, former Senator and current CEO of Catholic Social Services Australia.

Patriarch (Emeritus) Michel Sabbah: An Arab, Palestinian and Christian believer from Nazareth.
In 1987 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II as the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, the first Arab Patriarch to hold the office in the Catholic Church’s history. His work marked significant milestones in the struggle against injustice and oppression to bring peace to the country of the Prince of Peace. The film is a humble contribution to honour the Patriarch and shed light on some crucial moments in his life, his thoughts, and his constant obsession with the consolidation of love, justice, and peace.

Film director: MOHAMMED ALATAR. Mohammed is a filmmaker and human rights activist, with a deep commitment to films that matter, human rights, and people’s struggle for justice and peace. In 2002 he was nominated for the Martin Luther King Jr. Humanity Award.

Film producer: DR LILY HABASH. Lily has a PhD in politics and served in many advisory positions in the Palestinian Authority during the period 1994-2009. Since 2009, she worked in several senior positions related to governance and policy reform in the United Nations Development Programme, in a number of countries.
